Mplionas Alexandros
Neurosurgeon

Mplionas Alexandros

He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina and was included in the top quartile of graduates (Cum Laude). During his studies he was an instructor of medical students in the Neuroanatomy laboratory, and a key researcher in the biochemistry and biology laboratory. He has made scientific presentations at multiple pan-Hellenic conferences on Neurosurgery and neurosciences.

He specialized for two years in Vascular Surgery at the "Elpis" hospital, taking part in special vascular surgeries (aneurysms, arterial bypasses), and at the same time successfully performing a significant number of vascular surgeries. For an additional 2 years, he specialized in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the "Agia Sophia" Children's Hospital, where he participated in multiple pediatric neurosurgical operations, while for another two years, he specialized at the Asklipieio Hospital of Voula, performing multiple neurosurgical operations on the spine and brain injuries. In the hospital "G. Gennimatas" for a period of three years, he specialized mainly in Neurosurgery of the brain (aneurysms, endoscopic surgeries, skull base tumors, etc.), and performed a significant number of spinal operations and craniotomy. He received the title of Neurosurgery specialty completing his training at the GNA hospital "G. Gennimatas", which is one of the leading hospitals in Greece, with one of the most advanced Neurosurgery clinics.

He founded the molecular diagnostics company (Micro2Gen Ltd.), participating in the management (for 5 years), but especially in its research activities (for 14 years) that included major European and national programs resulting in the development of pioneering technology in the field of molecular-diagnostic medicine. He has also collaborated with the University of Ioannina and the University of Athens with the aim of analyzing clinical and experimental data with the aim of developing molecular oncology and improving the health services provided. For two years he was a research associate at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Ioannina where he conducted data mining for the total analysis of the human genome and the identification of new oncogenes. In addition, he has published and continues to publish numerous scientific works with global impact in internationally recognized medical journals, concerning pediatric neurosurgery, brain surgery and spine surgery, while he has presented and been an invited speaker at multiple Panhellenic and international Neurosurgery conferences. He is also a reviewer of scientific literature in important scientific medical publishing houses, promoting the development of medical science and the improvement of medical services to humans. The goal of his academic activity is to offer services to his patients, the quality and correctness of which is always based on recent and reliable scientific knowledge. The Doctor's scientific impact index (h-index) is equal to 5. He has dozens of bibliographic references in important journals of the world medical literature, and multiple important publications in world recognized medical journals. Based on data from global academic neurosurgery the above index of scientific strength is comparable to the index of an average university assistant professor of Neurosurgery.

Regarding his basic clinical experience, he served as a Field Service Doctor (rural doctor), at the Delvinaki Health Center. In about a decade, he successfully performed more than 500 surgeries in multiple hospitals, with low complication rates, as stated in the doctor's specialization. The hospitals in which the doctor specialized and worked are among the leading neurosurgical hospitals in the country, and are staffed by leading neurosurgeon scientists, with a deep knowledge of the art and science of neurosurgery. Therefore his knowledge and expertise includes the most universally accepted effective and successful surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. For an additional two years he also worked as a supervising neurosurgeon at Mother and Health hospitals where he provided neurosurgical care to children and adults, focusing on spinal cases but also craniosynostosis and hydrocephalus in small patients. There he worked and apprenticed in the company of American Neurosurgeons associates near leading neurosurgeon professors, with high level specialization and training in leading centers of the United States, where he obtained surgical and therapeutic techniques that have been developed, studied and used in leading university clinics in America ( Harvard, Brown, etc.).

For a number of years, he has also worked closely with the Metropolitan Hospital, treating complex cases such as brain aneurysms, brain tumors, neurosurgical trauma and hydrocephalus. In this great hospital, as a qualified Neurosurgeon, he collaborated and studied with important "teachers" of Neurosurgery, adding to his surgical, clinical and scientific experience.

During his entire career he has collaborated with leading Neurosurgeons, obtaining very important surgical diagnostic and therapeutic experience, which has been developed in leading world centers of Neurosurgery. All of the above results in the doctor having over 500 operations to his credit with high rates of effectiveness and a very low rate of complications. He has successfully performed hundreds of craniotomies as well as hundreds of spine surgeries, which are characterized by excellent results with a key element being the very good and careful selection of patients and the use of minimally invasive methods.

The doctor has been collaborating for a number of years with the Mediterraneo Hospital and the Psychiatric Clinic, dealing with complex spine and brain surgical cases, with excellent results, based on excellent scientific and technical training.

Today at the IASO General Clinic hospital, the doctor examines, performs operations and manages patients with Neurosurgical problems of the brain and spine, maintaining extremely high success rates and extremely low complication rates. Outside of Attica, he examines patients and performs minor operations in Ioannina in collaboration with Epirus Medicine. In addition, at the Olympian General Clinic of Patras, he examines patients and performs invasive procedures as well as surgeries.
